This is the home page of The Great Northern Carnation Society.

The GNCS was formed in 1989 by a few dedicated Carnation enthusiasts who felt that the Dianthus Genus deserved a Society which would devote all its energy in the propagation of these wonderful blooms. The GNCS hold its meetings in Gateshead Civic Centre on the last Thursday of each month except January, July and December. At the meetings we are entertained with talks given by experts in the growing of Pinks, Borders or Perpetuals, a slide show is available, practical demonstrations on staging blooms for exhibition. Plant sales are held at the beginning of the year were members can purchase plants, priority is given to new members. The GNCS holds three shows , which include novice classes for new members of which many find this a great help to them in exhibiting. Whatever your aim is, to grow exhibition quality blooms or for cut flower there is a wealth of knowledge amongst our ranks and we know it will be made freely available to members. Finally there is our highly praised Year book which is published early in the year and is full of useful articles and information on the Dianthus family. For any further information contact our secretary Mr. Peter Cunningham 44 Fulwell Avenue, Marsden Estate, South Shields, Tyne and Wear, NE34 7DQ.
