The Summer Show Towcester - report

As yet I have only a brief report from this show which I was unable to attend myself. It took place at the Bell Plantation at Towcester on 12th July. Below is a photograph of Roger Potter our President at the show. Behind him can be seen the high standard of blooms entered this year.

There is an excellent report on this show by Ivor Mace. Go to “links”, click on “intertesting related sites”, them click on “Ivor Mace”, then “general shows”, then “BNCS summer show”. Or click here. Ivor Mace

SUMMER SHOW – BELL PLANTATION TOWCESTER 2005
The summer show was very well attended, with 21 exhibitors putting flowers on the benches. This led to many people commenting that it was the best B.N.C.S. show for many years. I wonder if this was because the show was switched from the usual weekend dates to midweek, or perhaps it was just a good year for Dianthus.
There were a couple of minuses at the show. The first was the organising of the joint committee meeting. I think the start of the meeting should have been delayed for fifteen minutes for judging to be completed. As it happened, a steward had to leave his position to attend the meeting.
The other point concerned the Bikini Vase. At the end of the summer show schedule there is a special awards section. Both stewards and judges appear not to have seen it. By the time I found out, the judges had left the site. The Gilbert Greenhall Trophy I was able to award, but unfortunately the Bikini Vase was not awarded last year.
My thanks go to everyone who exhibited and helped in running the show, and in particular to Jim for organising the loan of the tables and getting them transported to and from the site. I also thank the judges and stewards who did an excellent job (apart from the Bikini Vase).
