June Show 2008 report

The BNCS June Show took place at Wisley on the 17th and 18th of the month. It was a great success and much appreciated by all those attending. The second day coincided with Pinks and Carnations day and this brought in large numbers of the public to the Hillside Centre.

With 15 exhibitors the show benches were full; pinks, PFs and a few early borders together with sweet Williams.

For the first time the distinctive rosettes provided by Mr and Mrs Walters were used.

The Floral Art competition was well supported and there were many entries in each class. Pictures of all together with more detail are given on the Flower Arrangers Page Here we see Rachel Slowe our Floral Art secretary infront of one of her spectacular creations!

We were delighted to see our patron Lady Salisbury, who spent an hour with us despite recent eye surgery. She eagerly viewed all the exhibits and also the pinks trials ground. A full report of her visit is here

Also it was good to see Roy Tolley who has done so much for the Society over the years. Despite poor mobility he regularly supports our shows and is seen here on the trials ground.

There was a steady stream of visitors on the first day but this increased to a torrent on the 18th when the doors opened on Pinks and Carnations Day which is reported elsewhere.

It is often forgotten the hard work done by all the unsung heroes of the society and here we see the clearing up underway.

Whilst at the show Nev Smith raised an interesting question about laced pinks. His article Look alike pinks is here
