Chelsea 2005 - Show report

The Chelsea Flower Show For an enthusiast in perpetualy flowering carnations Tuesday at Chelsea this year was quite depressing. It was cold, there was drizzle for most of the day until about 4pm when the sun finally came out.

For the first time since I can remember (over 25 years) there were no PF nurseries exhibiting. No Steven Bailey; no Allwoods.

Two cultivars were submitted by Maurice Woodfield for award. Both are shown: Istobraq a white and Woodfields Crimson a deep red.
I cannot wait until they become avaliable.

The other exhibit showing PF’s is shown in the accompanying picture I found it in the floral arrangement marquee. I leave members to judge it’s merit!

However “The Perfumed Garden” by Geoffrey and Kas Whiten was like a breath of freh air. Sponsered by Whetman’s Pinks it won a bronze medal. As well as beautiful pinks planted in the front garden of a small terraced house it included a basket of Whetmans new cultivars shown here by Carolyn Whetman (who kindly agreed to distribute some promotional cards for this website. A link to their website is included under “links”).

In all other respects the show was superb as usual. Another memorable day in the gardening calender. I just hope that next year there will be a few more Dianthus!
