Gardeners World Live at the NEC Birmingham on the 13-17 June celebrated 40 years of the Gardeners World TV programme, from Percy Thrower to Monty Don, You may have seen the celebratory garden designed by Joe Swift on TV.

Our presence at the show was a stall among the other specialist plant societies set up by Joy Hayward and friends with reference back to 1967, the events and in the case of carnations a plant, STORM introduced in that year, which aroused a lot of interest.
Rain on several of the days ‘damped down’ the number of visitors but we still gained a few new members and answered cultural and historical questions (granddad always grew a few carnations!!) on our favourite plants. As usual every visitor bent down to smell the flowers and marvelled at the fragrance of the pinks and were disappointed that the PFs were fragrance free.

A thank you must go to Joy and all who helped over the 6 days of the show, the setting up and the taking down.
