"Letter from Allwoods"

After the very successful and enjoyable society visit to Allwoods nursery last year, David James has sent me an update to be included on the website.

“We are now in the middle of what we call ‘the silly season’ orders are going out the door just as fast as we can pack them. I’m surprised sometimes we don’t see smoke coming from the printer it is having to print so many orders – over 5000 so far this spring! However since Emma updated the computer system last year it is invaluable in telling us what is selling so we can keep propagating what we need rather than what we think we need. It’s surprising but some varieties I have always thought of as popular are actually less so, than some I thought we hardly sold any off!

Those that visited the nursery last year will remember the rough car park and the entrance gate that looked as if it was about to fall off it’s hinges. Last Autumn we took the plunge and had the entrance widened and the whole car park tarmaced (don’t ask how much, but Emma said it was the biggest cheque she had ever written!) We also had new gates, so we are easier to turn into. If it ever stops raining I will send a photo!

Talking of weather don’t we seem to be getting a lot. Snow showers at Easter and now rain with the odd nice day so we can admire the puddles. Still the clocks have changed now and the plants are all perking up so fingers crossed summer is on it’s way.”
