Christmas is a busy time of year and much effort is usually put in to decorations for the home to provide a festive feel. In the recent past artificial decorations have predominated but there is a return to more natural displays. Artificial Christmas trees are increasingly being replaced by natural ones and holly and ivy are returning to brighten our homes at this bleak time of year.
Displays need colour to brighten them up and carnations provide an ideal flower to do this. Being relatively long lasting as a cut flower they will add colour throughout the festive season. Reds and whites give a traditional feel to the arrangement, while other colours will always be very acceptable to give a party atmosphere.
Scarlet of course to match the splendour of Santa’s robes, the brightness of holly berries and above all the colour of Rudolf’s nose. White reflecting the snow we all hope for at Christmas, the Virgin birth and to match Santa’s flowing beard.
Carnations can be used in table decorations or larger displays but perhaps the time has come to be more ambitious in their use. Why not include some with the sprig of mistletoe so that one can be detached and given to your sweetheart as a more lasting token of your affection?
Above all enjoy your carnations and enjoy Christmas!
