Brian Yates, our most prolific writer for the website, is embarking on a living diary of growing pinks in a windowbox. The episodes are in pdf format. Here is Brian’s introduction:-
It gives me great pleasure and enormous pride to be asked to compile a Living Diary on growing Pinks in containers. All too often we as gardeners think of a garden as a plot of ground to grow vegetables or flowers in. The task of digging, sowing, hoeing, and watering are seen as mans work only.
Yet a garden can be a window box high up on a block of flats, a couple of containers at the front door, or a spare piece of ground given over to the children to practice and copy dad.
The disabled and infirm are in the main deprived of the pleasures of the garden, as are those living high up in a flat. It is to you citizens that I wish to open up the world of gardening to.
Each month I will be growing my containers of Pinks and I invite you to follow me by taking part in this venture.
Let us all create a container of Pinks, write to me with any questions and I will answer them and post them on my pages. Send me a photograph of your container and due consideration will be given to posting it on the page, you may have some tip you want to tell me that is really useful then I can share it with all our readers, and don’t forget it is you who will get the credit for the brilliant idea not me. I need your input.
Nobody is too old or too frail to participate, just a few lines telling me what I need to do next.
Let us this together.
