For those who do not know, Eileen has been a leading member of the BNCS since its earliest days (following the amalgamation of the British Carnation Society and the National Picottee Society in 1949). Now in her eighties she is still very active in The Society (just look in the current yearbook) and still growing Borders and Pinks.
At the summer show at Towcester Eileen suggested I call round to see her Border Carnations in Eastbourne which were in full bloom. Living along the coast in Hastings I was able to look in after an early morning meeting at Eastbourne District General Hospital on the 28th July. This was at the height of the heat wave in the South East and some of the blooms were fading. However I thought you would like to see one or two pictures of Eileen’s plants. Here is a picture of a pink “Crock of Gold” which I thought was outstanding.
Here are some of her borders all awarded AGM certificates and raised by Eileen and her late husband John. (They were taken using a mobile phone).
