July Webletter

The month has passed very quickly and I am late getting this letter out. Sorry!

June was an eventful month for the Society. The visit to Whetmans nursery was very well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all. (See report). The plugs of pinks I brought back have flourished and will soon be planted out in the garden.

The June Show at Wisley was a splendid event and the Pinks Day was another great success.

Next week is the Summer Show at Towcester. All exhibitors should notify the Show Secretary of their intentions. Members are welcome to attend what promises to be a bumper show.

Derek Clarke is hoping to set up a group of local enthusiasts around Evesham. Contact him directly if interested. If other members would like to post similar articles do let me know.

As the heat wave continues the glasshouses need shading with proprietary whitener. Damp down the floors in the heat of the day. Plants need plenty of water, and a weekly feed of dilute tomato feed. Make sure your plants are in large enough pots. They will dry out quickly if pot bound. Spray regularly for red spider and other pests.

As we enter the season of flower shows do feel free to submit any reports of Dianthus exhibits for inclusion on this site together with pictures if appropriate. Also any articles on Dianthus can be included. Idealy send electronicaly with digital photos at least 325 pixels wide; but failing this send typed articles and photos which can be scanned.
