The President 2006

Mr. Doug Cottam’s Acceptance Speech
I thank you all most sincerely for electing me as President of our Society. I am honored to have been chosen, and shall endeavor to fulfill my duties to the best of my ability.
My aim is to encourage new growers to grow our chosen flowers, which I have enjoyed doing for many years.
My first show was at Lancs and Cheshire Carnation Society in 1986, when I exhibited Borders and Perpetual Flowering Carnations. Since then I have continued exhibiting throughout the country, making many new friends and meeting other fellow exhibitors.
Under the watchful eye of Arthur Robinson, I became a Judge of Perpetual Flowering Carnations, Borders and Pinks, at the William Kay Hall – Mansfield, Notts. Since then I have judged shows at different venues throughout the country, small as well as large; from Ponteland in the Northeast to Wisley in Surrey, and up until recently have given lectures to various Societies.
I am now concentrating on breeding Miniature Pinks, Pinks and Border Carnations have been awarded ‘Awards of Garden Merit’ (AGM) at Wisley and ‘Awards of Merit for Exhibition’.
During my term of Office I will endeavor to visit as many shows as possible and do my utmost to promote our Society.
Kind regards and my sincere thanks – Doug Cottam.
