THERE ARE TWO SECTIONS: -A.PLANTS EXHIBITED IN POTS B. CUT STEMS

SECTION (A) In Pots:
Maximum size 5” or 1.5 litres The pots should be circular (may be clay or terracotta coloured plastic) and should be exhibited in a pot saucer to protect the fabric of the staging. These should be clean and free from lime scale or algae. The growing media can be covered with alpine grit or clean limestone chippings to enhance the visual impact of the exhibit Labels declaring the plant name are acceptable but not necessary.

1 PLANT GROWTH:
The plant should adequately fill the pot. The foliage of the dianthus should be healthy and tidy and be either green or glaucous blue depending on the cultivar and should be free from any pests or diseases. The foliage should be equally spaced within the confines of the pot and be circular in outline when viewed from any angle.

2 FLOWERS:
The plant should ideally display to the general public the full spectrum of the flowering cycle with equal proportions of fully opened, partially opened and unopened buds. Spent flowers should have been removed. The flowers should be equal in size and the colour should be consistent throughout. The freshness should be noted by the condition of the stigma or pollen sacs, with perfume being a bonus.

SECTION (B) Cut Stems

1. DIANTHIUS FOLIAGE: A vase or container must have dianthus foliage to complete the exhibit. This should be of leaf size in keeping with the flower size and should provide a balanced exhibit.

2 . MAXIMUM HEIGHT OF EXHIBITS
Measuring from the top of the vase, container the stem should be a maximum of 8” (200 mm) to the fully opened flower.

3. FLOWERS
The stems should exhibit side buds or can have only single flowers according to that cultivar. The blooms should be uniform in size and colour. The markings in patterned or laced cultivars should be uniform within the exhibit.

4. FRESHNESS
This can be determined by examining the growth and/or the condition of the stigmas or pollen sacs.

5.STAGING
A balanced presentation has to be taken into consideration. 6.
